Why is it called Good News?

The “Good news” or "gospel” of Christ is the good news of His coming into the world to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe.

You could say the Good News is about Jesus.

Romans 10:9-11 New International Version

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

1 Corinthians 15 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

Now, brothers and sisters, I want you to remember the Good News I told you. You received that Good News message, and you continue to base your life on it. That Good News, the message you heard from me, is God’s way to save you. But you must continue believing it. If you don’t, you believed for nothing.

God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and The Holy Spirit--the triune God.  He is the Creator of ALL things.  God is love.

We become God's children by believing in Christ.  God is truth and light so the more we get to know Him, the better we can keep focused on the truth.  Our relationship with God is a way of life.  We build our confidence by trusting in God's Word and in Christ's provision for our sins.  Sin requires God's forgiveness and Christ's death provides it for us.  Determining to live according to Gods standards in the Bible shows that our life is being transformed.  We cannot deny our sin nature, maintain that we are above sinning or minimize the consequences of sin in our relationship with God.  We must resist the attraction of sin, yet we must confess when we do sin.  Christ commands us to love others as He loves us.  This love is evidence that we are truly saved.  God is the Creator of love and He cares that His children love each other.  Love means putting others first and being unselfish.  Love is action--showing others we care--not just saying it.

What is God's plan for me?

God’s plan is for everyone to find Him, and He wants to be your Father forever.  God loves you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for the penalty of sin … instead of us having to.  Believing and loving Jesus makes it possible for you to have God as your Father forever.

John 3:16-18   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.   For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Why is the Bible important to study?

Do you ever wonder… Why was I born?  What purpose do I have on earth?  What happens to me when I die?   The Bible is the living Word of God.  It reveals who you are and who God is.  Studying the Bible teaches you how to live each day righteously.  It gives faith beyond your own ability.  This faith empowers you to believe in and trust God.  His Word will help you remove all your doubts and fears about your life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17   All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Why should I go to church?

Church is anywhere believers in Jesus Christ gather in His name to honor and show gratitude to God.  Believers gather as one unified “Body of Christ” to encourage and strengthen each other, to study God’s Word and serve each other.  Jesus completes the Body of Christ by filling the church with His gracious presence.

Acts 2:44   All the believers were together and had everything in common.

Ephesians 1:23 [And the Church] which is His body; the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Hebrews 10:24-25   And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another …

What is a Christian?

Matthew 12:50   For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.

1 John 3:1   See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are! ...

John 1:12   Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

The word Christian means “Christ one” - to be one like Christ.   A Christian lives like Jesus Christ.  They give all their love, faith and trust to the Father and his Son Jesus Christ.  They are called His children, God’s true family, because they obey their Father’s will and teachings of the Bible.

Am I required to give money to the church?

Give as you are able.  Give what you decide in your heart.  God loves a cheerful giver who gives out of the grace of God, not out of reluctance or under guilt …it is a free will offering of what you can spare.  The monetary gift a church receives supports its needs.

2 Corinthians 9:7  Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13
